WSOP Event 77 Comes to An End with Success for Pulusani. Fans who have been following the side events at the WSOP will no doubt already know the results of the events. However, for those who have only been following the Main Event, there has been quite a lot of action you’ve missed on the side tables. WSOP Event 77 proved particularly exciting for some, as Sandeep Palusani pulled off a decent return to net himself over $275K.
The big win came in Event 77, also known as the $1,500 Mixed No-Limit Hold’em/Pot Limit Omaha table. The final results saw Americans perform strongly in the closing stages and sealing all three top spots.
A Triumph for Stateside Players
Americans tend to perform strongly in this event, and that was clearly on show this year. Heading the pack was Sandeep Pulusani, who scored a prize pot of $277,949. He was followed by Esther Taylor with her $171,787 haul. Bringing up the rear was Aden Salazar and his $124,864 return. Outside of the US, Canada’s Vincent Lam trucked up in fourth with $91,800, followed by Britain’s Richard Kellett ($68,274). Noah Bronstein (USA), Vegard Andreassen (Norway), and William Leffingwell (USA) completed the top ten.
What Happened in WSOP Event 77
As the competition entered its final day, Pulusani surprisingly had the third smallest stack of the eleven remaining poker players, at 1,210,000. At one point in the proceedings, he even dipped as low as 400,000 chips.
After narrowly making the final table, Kellett knocked out Leffingwell. Andreassen fell shortly afterwards, moving all in a full-house sporting Pulusani, much to his regret. Bronstein went next, falling victim to Lam, before Pulusani made a flush from the river, knocking out Kellett along the way. Some back-and-forth action between Taylor and Lam ended when Lam fell to Salazar, but he soon bled chips. His failure to bluff Taylor was a highlight in the game before Taylor took him down with double-suited aces. In the final action of the event, Taylor paired her queen on the river but fell to Pulusani’s straight draw.
The Big Win
Despite a rocky start, Pulusani turned it around against Esther Taylor and Aden Salazar to walk away with his second bracelet in ten years. His last came at the $3K No-Limit Event in 2013. Speaking following the win, Pulusani claimed that his recent triumph proves that his first bracelet wasn’t a fluke. Onlookers will undoubtedly say that Pulusani required a lot of luck to fight back against his compatriots, though.
Speaking about his opposition, he commented that at 21, Salazar has a “talent for the game” and that he revels in taking on younger opposition to see how he measures up. He also shared an embrace with Esther Taylor following their final hand. What’s next for Pulusani? He’s heading back to Los Angeles to celebrate with his wife and one-and-a-half-year-old.
