This year’s World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournament may be on ice for the time being, but its organizers are looking at other ways for players to enjoy poker this summer. Following news that COVID-19 has led to a postponement of the traditional poker competition, WSOP officials have announced that a World Series of Poker 2020 Online tournament will begin in July and span over two months.
The World Series of Poker Goes Online
Scheduled to begin on Wednesday, July 1, two new competitions will feature 85 World Series of Poker gold bracelets up for grabs, dished out at a rate of 1 per day. Events taking place in North America, are limited to those players in Nevada and New Jersey, where online gambling is regulated and legal. However, WSOP is just one platform that will be inviting players to participate. You can win satellites to these events by visiting sites like Bovada and ACR.
Two distinct platforms will play host to the WSOP Online tournament. Both the WSOP website and the GGPoker Network will offer bracelets via their own unique tournaments. Through the GGPoker Network, international players will be invited to compete to win a bracelet from outside the US for the very time, with those tournaments concluding on September 6.
Two Competitions Open to Different Players
Each competition will only be available to players in selected regions. The WSOP competition is only open to North Americans, while the GGPoker competition is accessible to players based outside North America. GGPoker has already warned American players that anybody caught playing from inside the US will be deemed ineligible, and any prizes won will be forfeited. The WSOP event has similar geo-restrictions in place for American players to ensure that they come from eligible states.
What to Expect for Poker This Summer
GGPoker’s offerings arguably look like they are going to be the bigger of the two options. A rolling bracelet schedule has yet to be confirmed, although it has been announced that buys-ins will span a broad range, and differing game formats will give players numerous options to get involved.
Over at WSOP, many poker satellite tournaments with stakes starting at $1 are planned. $100,000 of prize money has been made available to the most successful North American players throughout July via the WSOP competition. More information about both poker competitions can be found on their respective websites, including crystal clear information about how to get involved, and scheduling for the events.
The Return of the WSOP
The fifty-first edition of the World Series of Poker was initially scheduled to take place on May 26. The COVID-19 outbreak put paid to that. As a result, the tournament has been postponed until autumn. It is believed that the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas will stay play host to the competition in the fall, although a new schedule is yet to be announced for the future tournament.
In the meantime, as mentioned, North Americans and international players can compete to win 31 and 54 gold bracelets, respectively via the WSOP and GGPoker competitions which are due to start next month.
