New US Enforcement against Online Sports Betting

Operating an illegal online sports betting business in the United States – already a hazardous enterprise judging by the frequent reports of federal and state busts and heavy jail and financial penalties – could become even more dangerous due to a new Federal Bureau of Investigation drive against offenders.
 
The new Internet Sportsbook Initiative was unveiled in FBI communications recently, which claim that illegal online sports betting is often associated with organised crime and linked illegal activities such as loan sharking and money laundering, and must be stamped out.
 
The reveal did not give any specifics regarding future operations, but did say that the services of other federal and state agencies – and even international bodies – would be enlisted, a feature of past operations in which IRS and Home Security have often been involved in federal busts, along with state enforcement agencies.
