Tony G candidate for Lithuania’s Liberal Party
Tuesday October 8, 2013 : TONY G FROM POKER TO POLITICS
Aims to bring new people, new blood to Lithuanian politics
Lithuanian-born Antanas Guoga, better know in the poker world as the trash-talking Tony G, will be heading off to the EU Parliament in Brussels as a candidate for Lithuania's Liberal Party.
Guoga announced the news on his website saying: "Making the list leaves me well positioned for next year. The Liberal Party has set a goal during the European parliamentary election to fight hard for two seats. Currently, the Liberal Movement in the European Parliament has one representative so that means the road ahead is filled with a lot of hard work for me. But I am qualified and up to the task. My goals are set."
Guoga believes Lithuanian politics "needs new people and new blood" and he wants to be in a position to be able to change policies.
"I have been fortunate enough to be reasonably successful in my life and I have new ideas and hope to inspire others to come into politics too. I think I can bring a lot to the table with my experience in life and business," Guoga's statement said.
In his inimitable style, Guoga concluded by saying: "One thing you can count on in my new political world — there will be no online poker played on a phone or laptop during debates on my watch!" – a tongue in cheek reference to U.S. Senator John McCain who was spotted doing just that a couple of months ago
