PokerStars.com in the world’s largest online poker site, meaning they have more player traffic than all of their competitors, and this is by a wide margin. Already known for their generous Pokerstars VIP program, which sit and go players also participate in, serious sit and go grinders get even larger value at PokerStars thanks to the sit and go leader board promotion we’ll cover on this page.
If you’re not familiar with sit and goes, a sit and go (sometimes written sit n go or SNG for short) is a mini poker tournament. These tournaments run around the clock and begin as soon as all seats are filled. The most common Sit and Go is a single table tournament played nine handed, though heads up and shorthanded (six max) tables are also available.

In addition to single table tournaments PokerStars.com offers 2 table, 3 table, 5 table, 10 table and 20 table SNGs. These tournaments start as soon as all seats are sold and end once one player has all the chips. In the most common sit n go offered (Single Table, 9 handed) the payouts are 1st place 50%, 2nd place 30% and 3rd place 20%. This is clearly defined in the tournament lobby, so you’ll know what payouts are prior to registering for each sit and go. In addition to the prize pool players receive frequent player points for each Sit and Go they play, which you can learn more about on our page PokerStars VIP Program, and also potentially earn points for the Battle of the Planets Sit and Go Leader Board Promotion we cover in this article.
Battle of the Planets Sit and Go Leader Board
The greatest thing about the PokerStars Sit and Go Leader Board Promotion is that you don’t have to play high stakes to get a share of the $3,000,000 in prize money they give out each year. In fact the PokerStars SNG leader board promotion is broken down into eight different categories, with the lowest being $1.00-$2.99 sit n goes, so even micro limit grinders can get a piece the pool. Each time you finish in the money in a sit and go that has between 6 and 27 players you’ll earn points towards the sit and go leader board.
These points are awarded as follows:
6 Player SNGs | 8 Player SNGs | 9 Player SNGs | 10 Player SNGs | 12 Player SNGs | 16 Player SNGs | 18 Player SNGs | 27 Player SNGs | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1st | 39 | 40 | 45 | 50 | 54 | 55 | 61 | 80 |
2nd | 21 | 24 | 27 | 30 | 32 | 41 | 46 | 58 |
3rd | 0 | 16 | 18 | 20 | 22 | 26 | 30 | 38 |
4th | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 14 | 16 | 22 |
5th | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 18 |
As far as prizes are concerned the Sit and Go leader board is broken down into eight stake categories, named after planets, each which has two individual leader board races. It is advisable not to vary your stake when playing too much because you want to earn as many points possible and attempting to compete for more than one planets prize pools in a given week likely spreads you too thin (greatly reducing your chances of winning). If you’re a little confused just what we’re talking about this chart which breaks down the planet categories should help you understand.
Sit & Go Buy-in | Division Name | Low Orbit Prize Pool | High Orbit Prize Pool | Total Division Prize Pool |

The final area we need to touch on is low orbit versus high orbit and how these work. Traditionally leader board races at online poker sites were won by players who played the most. PokerStars.com realized that players with a life outside of online poker also like to compete, so they created the high orbit and low orbit system to help level the playing field. A low orbit consists of 20 sit and goes.
Therefore the first 20 sit and goes you play are orbit one, the second 20 are orbit two so on and so forth. High orbit works much the same as low orbit except each orbit is a block of 100 tournaments. At the end of the week only the low orbit and high orbit you earned the most points for are considered. If you’re one of the highest point earners for your planet that week you’ll win a cash prize.
To note it is possible to win both the low and high orbit tournaments in the same week, in fact it is a quite common occurrence for high orbit winners to win a low orbit prize as well as the two races are heavily correlated. Battle of the Planets $50,000 Freeroll When you finish in the top 10 of any sit and go leader board race you’re automatically enrolled for a monthly freeroll tournament.
This freeroll has a $50,000 prize pool and is played out in triple shoot out format. The top 81 players are paid, with 10-81 receiving $195 each and the final table payouts from first to ninth are $12000, $7500, $4500, $3350, $2735, $2200, $1700, $1200 and $775.
