Saturday March 5,2016 : MALAYSIAN VICTORY IN POKERSTARS LIVE MACAU EVENT
Conference manager wins HK$1,904,000 (around $245,000)
Malaysian conference manager and avid poker fan Ying Lin Chua is celebrating a big $245,000 (HK$1,904,000) win this weekend after taking down the HK$12,000 buy-in Red Dragon at the Macau Poker Cup 24.
The event on the gambling island attracted a field of 1,075, setting a new record for a freeze out event in the Asia-Pacific region. Commenting on the good turnout, Asia Pacific Poker Tour president Danny McDonagh said in a press release:
"It's a special day for the PokerStars Live team, as we've been looking to crack the one thousand-player milestone since the Red Dragon hit 995 in 2014. There's been a global surge in reentry events these last few years, so this accomplishment is that much more satisfying to achieve in a classic freezeout format."
Ying Lin Chua has revelled in an outstanding 2016 so far, previously winning $86,130 at the World Poker Tour National Philippines competition.
When the action reached three-handed stage, the three survivors – Chua, Wayne Zhang and Takashi Ogura – negotiated a chop in which Chua as chip leader locked up the biggest pay-out, leaving HK$300,000 on the table for the ultimate winner.
Soon after that Japanese player Takashi Ogura was eliminated, leaving a badly trailing Zhang facing a dominant Chua. It was quickly over, leaving Zhang with HK$1,307,000 for his time and trouble.
Other final table cashes were:
Liang Xu China HK$611,000
Chengbei Li China HK$413,000
Fan Xie China HK$302,100
Yang Zhang China HK$257,000
Tom Alner UK HK$223,500
Yongqiang Huang China HK$190,000
