Friday March 8, 2013 : TWO MERGE POKER SKINS CLOSE THEIR VIRTUAL DOORS
Iron Duke and Overbet no longer operational
Internet poker players who used the Overbet and Iron Duke skins on the Merge poker network were disappointed to learn this week that both have closed.
Players on various message boards reported receiving notifications which advised that Overbet had been purchased by an unidentified party, but that their account balances were safe. They were urged to sign up with other Merge skins, implying that their funds are being safeguarded by the network and its "preferred partners".
The three preferred partner choices given to players were PlayersOnly, Sportsbook.com or the major skin on the network, Carbon Poker.
The downside for players is that whilst their account balances will be transferred, their VIP Points, tournament tickets and VIP levels have been lost.
The operators of Iron Duke were less forthcoming, but the remedies offered to players are the same – migrate with your account balances to PlayersOnly, Sportsbook.com or Carbon Poker, but tough luck regarding VIP Points, tournament tickets and VIP levels.
Online poker industry observers predict that Pokerview may be the next Merge site to close; they base their prediction on a recent email from the operator asking for acquisition bids.
The Iron Duke and Overbet exits follow three other departures from the network since December last year – Black Chip, RPM and Hero Poker.
