Larger than life character loses battle with Cancer
British-born professional gambler and poker player Dave Ulliott lost his hard fought battle with cancer today (Monday) at the age of 61.
A colourful character in the poker world, Ulliott was known in his early career as “Dave-The Clock” and later as Dave “DevilFish” Ulliott.
He was a World Series of Poker bracelet-winner (1997), who learnt to play poker with his parents as a young child.
Other notable wins included the World Poker Tour first season Jack Binion World Poker Open in January 2003 where he bested Phil Ivey to win the title and a payday of $589,175.
Devilfish’s lifetime poker tournament score topped $5 million during an over-two-decades-long professional poker career.
Ulliott became a UK poker celebrity after he featured in the successful British television series “Late Night Poker” in 1999, a programme that raised the profile of poker in Britain in the 2000’s.
Victoria Coren, reviewing Ulliott’s biography “DEVILFISH: The Life & Times of a Poker Legend” in September 2010 summed it up as: “The book is, like the man, fast, funny, scary, smart, cocky, colourful, and I adore them both.”
The sad news was broken on Ulliott’s official Twitter account, he leaves behind seven children.
