Second Reading of Canada SPorts Betting Bill

Saturday April 16,2016 :  CANADIAN SPORTS BETTING BILL REACHES SECOND READING (Update)

Single-game wagering front and centre again.

Canadian MP Brian Masse's February private member's bill resurrection of the Canadian single-game wagering proposal (now titled C-221, the Safe and Regulated Sports Betting Act) has reached second reading stage in the House of Commons.

To mark the progress and perhaps to recharge support for the bill, the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce is joining the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Labor Congress, the Canadian Gaming Association and other interested parties in a strategy session next week.

The aim will be to avoid another stonewalling fiasco such as that which sealed the fate of the previous C-290 single-game wagering bill.  This passed with an overwhelming majority in the Commons but was then stalled for months in the unelected Senate by an anti-gambling faction before finally running out of time and being abandoned
