Wednesday April 22,2015 : AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT MULLS EXTENDING PRE-COMMITMENT TO ONLINE GAMBLING
New measures proposed in national harm minimisation and consumer protection standards for licensed online gambling activities.
The Australian federal government is considering the extension of pre-commitment requirements to online gambling, making it mandatory for Internet punters to set their own deposit limits, reports the Australian Associated Press news agency..
The measures are contained in a national harm minimisation and consumer protection standard for all licensed online gambling activities.
Communications Minister Stephen Conroy has asked Australian states and territories to assist in the
implementation of the proposals, observing: "As the way Australians use gambling services shifts online, we need to ensure that protections for consumers remain robust and relevant."
The government will not be pursuing changes to the trial of online tournament poker or in-play sports wagering, despite recommendations by a departmental review.
