Arkansas and Connecticut Showcase Allegiance to Online Gambling
More and more US states are looking to legalizing online gambling. Ever since the online gambling sector in the US began to open, it has been a messy experience for all involved. Some states have tried to be as straightforward as possible. Either outlawing or legalizing most forms of internet gambling. Others have taken a fiddly, troublesome route. Legalizing some aspects but not others. Two states aren’t beating around the bush. They have been quite clear about their intentions this week. The states include Arkansas and Connecticut.
Arkansas Makes the Move to Mobile
For over two years, Arkansas has permitted its residents to bet on sports. However, they have only been able to do so on a retail basis. That is set to change, though, with things set to not only go digital but mobile to boot.
Last week, the Razorback state saw a subcommittee approve mobile sports betting. This is a big step towards legalizing online gambling. The best news is that this industry could be up and running in time for the March Madness college basketball action. Of course, there are laws and rules that need to be covered. For instance, any operator interested in offering sports bets would need to partner with one of the state’s three casinos and fork out 51% of their revenue to the casino.
That could cause a bit of a dilemma, as not too many sportsbooks will be happy about it. Or you can just visit Bovada and bet sports online.However, there is nothing to stop the casino’s launching such enterprises themselves. Either way, it seems that some form of mobile betting is going to be up and running in Arkansas before too long.
Connecticut Could Legalizing Online Gambling
Further north, Connecticut is looking at trying to pass a new piece of legislation that would effectively alter the rules of advanced deposit wagering (AGM) to facilitate horse racing betting. Bill SB 134 would remove a passage from Section 12-572b that covers off-track betting. As of late, no sponsors have come forth to back the bill. A public hearing was due on Tuesday (Feb 22). There are opponents to the bill (such as local bookmakers who believe that they have exclusive rights to horse racing betting in the state).
However, as the bill could form a part of a trio of law changes. There could be significant backing from those who want to make betting on the nags easier for residents of Connecticut. Those other bills include greyhound racing, while the other would “report on the effects of legalized gambling” by January next year and provide ten-year period reports.
