Tuesday, September 27, 2011 : DANISH POKER PRO WINS WCOOP MAIN EVENT
1,627 entrants create prize pool of $8,135,000
Thomas "Kallllle" Pedersen bested 1,627 entrants this week to take down the $5,200 buy-in 2011 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker main event, claiming a prize of $1,260,019 and his first WCOOP bracelet.
The star-studded entry list generated an impressive prizepool of $8,135,000, playing down to a final table that comprised Pedersen with a substantial chip lead over Ramzi Jelassi, VadziMoney, Vojtech Rusika, Mike Leah, Whysosrsson, jlego and Nick Hahn.
The elimination of Leah in third place for $560 000 set up a short but exciting heads up between Pedersen and Vojtech "Vojta_R" Ruzicka, although Pedersen's massive multi-million chip lead made the outcome fairly predictable, Ruzicka exiting with the runner up prize of $710,000 despite an admirable fight.
Pedersen was dominant throughout, personally busting out six of the final table's eight players as he built up a commanding lead. In the end, he locked up well over $1.1 million in a five-way chop, adding another $100,000 for the victory.
The quality of the contestants can be judged by just some of the big name entrants like Eugene Katchalov, Luke Schwartz, Mickey Petersen, Terrence Chan, Tom Marchese, Dani Stern, and Niki Jedlicka.
The event was the closing competition for this year's WCOOP, which generated over $47 million in prizes across 62 events and has been running since September 4th.
