Tennis Odds: Djokovic, Williams Advance at Wimbledon
Tennis Odds: Djokovic into Quarterfinals at Wimbledon
It took a little more work than expected, but top seeds Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams have advanced to the next round in their respective draws at the 2015 Wimbledon Championships. Djokovic rallied from two sets down to beat Kevin Anderson (+475) on Tuesday, and Williams battled back after dropping her first set to Victoria Azarenka (+275).
Going into Tuesday's action, Djokovic was holding firm as the 11/8 favorite to defend his title at Wimbledon, and meanwhile Williams was 4/5 atop the women's draw following the elimination of second favorite and defending champion Petra Kvitova in the third round. Djokovic was due to face Marin Cilic (50/1) in a quarterfinal match on Wednesday; Williams and Maria Sharapova (5/1) were scheduled to meet Thursday in the women's semifinals.
While Williams is in the driver's seat with just two matches remaining and her toughest competition eliminated, Djokovic has more work to do. Andy Murray (2/1) and Roger Federer (4/1) were still in the mix going into the quarterfinals, and Murray had the easiest matchup of the bunch against Canada's Vasek Pospisil (150/1). At press time, Pospisil was +1400 to beat Murray in Wednesday's quarterfinal; Cilic was +800 to defeat Djokovic.
