It’s one thing to bet on the NBA during the regular season, but it’s something else entirely to predict the result of an artistic display like the dunk competition. High-flying rookie Zach LaVine has the -110 advantage for good reason, but there’s no guarantee that his athleticism will be enough to appease the panel.Dark horse candidate Victor Oladipo is only +300 on the moneyline for the competition. But if his competition portfolio is anything like his in-game portfolio, the rest of the contestants better be careful.
The other candidates, Giannis Antetokounmpo (+225) and Mason Plumlee (+700), will have to shed the preconceptions of big men struggling in slam dunk contests. They’re both capable of making noise in NBA arenas, but the creative environment of a competition is a different story.
If you’re looking for a more objective competition, check out the odds for the Three-Point Shootout competition. Although Stephen Curry (+225) is a popular favorite, it seems equally plausible that anybody in the contest could walk away victorious.
