Technical specs and regulations will have to be agreed before the governor can move
 
Nevada governor Brian Sandoval obtained the state Legislature's approval to negotiate interstate compacts to improve online poker player liquidity in February this year but he is still bound by the need for agreed technical specifications, it appears from reports on a meeting of the Nevada Gaming Control Board last Wednesday in which the issue was discussed in some detail.
 
The governor confirmed in an interview with the publication Vegas Inc that he has held initial discussions with like-minded states, but said that he was constrained from further progress by the need for the NGCB and the Nevada Gaming Commission to finalise the regulations required.
 
These may be ready for discussion sometime in October, the governor said.
 
The possibility of compacts with other states is not confined to online poker it appears; representatives from major industry companies have also pressed for interstate deals that would enable operators to offer progressive slot games across consenting states' borders in a similar fashion to super lotteries like the Powerball.
 
Gov. Sandoval has appointed a Nevada lawyer, John Moran, to oversee the interstate regulatory process, leveraging his considerable experience in interstate negotiating.
