Dana Castaneda claims bracelet in NLHE open event
 
A California cocktail waitress with a talent for poker is the latest bracelet winner at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, taking down the fifty fourth event at this years' series, a $1,000 buy-in NLHE open event with a main prize of $454,207.
 
Outlasting a field of 2882 other hopefuls, Dana Castaneda – the only woman to reach the final – entered final table action with one of the lowest stacks, but managed to bounce back to defeat Jason Bigelow, Matthias Bednarek, Michael Zucchet, Philippe Clerc, Barry Hutter, Jacob Bazeley, Joseph Wertz and Kenneth Gregersen.
 
In the heads up she faced Canadian player Jason Bigelow, sending him home with a second placing pay-out of $281,991 and securing her second cash this series – earlier this week she earned $1,768 for a 94th placing in the Ladies NLHE Championship playing against 900 other players.
 
The win was a rare achievement for a female player; renowned poker pro Vanessa Selbst is the only woman who has won bracelets in open events over the last six years, achieving victory in 2008 and 2012.
 
Five nationalities were represented at the final table of event 54, and the event generated a total prize pool of $2,594,700, enabling 296 entrants to cash.
